Panda
December 31, 2016

Celebrating the last day of the year with a Panda cake for Teagan's 9th birthday. She wanted a panda cake where she could eat the figure and not keep it. So the panda is cake, fondant, rice cereal and modelling chocolate - all edible. The bottom tier is both chocolate and vanilla cake with buttercream icing and fondant. Originally the panda was going to have a party hat, but about a month ago, Teagan asked if the panda could have a crown. Thus we now have "Princess Panada"

Elephant
November 11, 2016

A cake for Rachel's 10th birthday. She wanted an elephant cake, but she didn't want the cake to be the elephant and eat it, but rather have an elephant on the cake that she could keep. So instead of going the African direction, I went to India. Both tiers are hexagon shape ( 6 and 8 inch) with fondant decorations. The roses are gumpaste and the elephant is modelling chocolate with fondant decorations and an edible printout used for the carpet.

Presents for the party
July 18, 2016

Cakes for Jan's 63rd birthday, along with acknowledging the anniversaries of his four kids. As he told me "My kids are my gifts"

Jan and I shared the baking and icing/filling making and I assisted Jan as he decorated all the cakes. Each one is a different flavour.
- top - black forest
- yellow with blue bow - chocolate and vanilla cake for the kids.
- red with white polka dots - banana cake with chocolate
- light green - vanilla cake with lemon curd
- blue purple - mocha cake with chocolate.
The four gift cakes are iced with buttercream and decorated with fondant

Fox
June 24, 2016

A fox for Natalya's 8th birthday. Foxes are Natalya's favourite animal so there was no question as to what her cake would be this year. The cake base and fox head are made from rice cereal/marshmallow, covered with fondant. The fox body and tail are cake covered with buttercream and fondant. The piece is 20 inches tall from bottom of the base to the tip of the fox ear. The fox alone is 17 inches tall. A first for me, to make the entire figure as the cake.

For a little boy who loves Star Wars
May 28, 2016

Kelly and I were excited to make our very first Star Wars cake together. The cake is a 9 inch round, with a 6 inch, cake, sphere for BB8's body. His head is rice cereal and fondant. Baking a cake ball was a first, plus making sand from cake scraps. Most fun -- splattering on the stars with food colouring.

Tri-Birthday Celebration
April 20, 2016

April is a busy month for birthdays in the Boers clan, so a party was held to celebrate three of them at one time. A lego block for Chirs. It's a 4 inch square lemon cake with lemon curd filling. The blocks are made from fondant. Flowers for Martha, in many of her favourite colours. A five inch round, chocolate cake with chocolate filling and buttercream icing. THe flowers are fondant. Computer circuit boards for Mike's cake, which is a 4 inch square, vanilla cake with buttercream and raspberry jam filling. Panels are made from fondant. Happy Birthday to you all!

Under Construction
April 21, 2016

For a little boy who just loves his trucks -- a construction cake for his 6th birthday. The backhoe (which is his favourite) was made from rice cereal, gumpaste and fondant. The remaining decorations were all made from fondant. The bottom tier was a 7 inch round and the top tier was a 5 inch round.

Five-inch round, black forest cake for my birthday

Chocolate Truffle
January 31, 2016

First cake for 2016 -- A Chocolate Truffle cake, made for a friend's birthday. This 6 inch, rich chocolate cake has ganache cream filling (with touch of dark rum) and a chocolate ganache glaze (with a touch of expresso) My best ganache glaze to date and my first try at making my own chocolate decor. I'd say VERY decadent!
