A pool party birthday for Marie
June 24, 2012

Marie celebrated her first birthday with a Winnie the Pooh pool party cake. The main cake is a 9 inch chocolate cake and the pool is lemon cake with lemon curd filling. Both are covered in buttercream and fondant. The characters are made from modelling chocolate, and all the remaining decorations are made from fondant and/or gum paste. I was really happy with how the 4 characters turned out and the chocolate was great to work with. Kelly and Melissa helped make the smaller decorations and where there to assemble the cake.

I was asked to make the topper for Natalya's 4th birthday cake, along with the other decorating elements (all made from fondant and gum paste). Ainsley baked and assembled the final cake. There were also 24 cupcakes, which carried the same theme.

The coming of spring
March 15, 2012

Every year I make myself a black forest birthday cake (6 inch round). This year the flavour is the same, but the decoration is a little different than usual. The crocus flowers are made from fondant, and instead of making them realistic I've stylized them.

A very merrry "unbirthday" to us!
March 5, 2012

A group of my friends decided that we should pick a day to celebrate all our birthdays on. So, we made March 5th our "unbirthday" party to celebrate. And what's a party without a cake? This 6 inch round chocolate cake was covered in fondant and buttercream. It was inspired by the cake in Alice in Wonderland.
